Guided Fly Fishing Trips On public waters, in the san juan national forest

Nice waterfall.

Guided Fly Fishing Trips on Public Waters.

The streams on the upper San Juan’s that are with in the San Juan National Forest. These streams and creeks are all on public land, and are not at all like the San Juan in New Mexico. These unspoiled streams and creeks start just miles above where we will be fishing. The area is surrounded by 12,000 to 13,000 foot peaks that are often packed with snow until June. This snow pack feeds these intimate streams with water that ends up in the San Juan River, Piedra, and the Navajo River. These waters then flow into Navajo Reservoir and then into the Famous Tail Water of the Lower San Juan.

Some of the many streams we are permitted on through the San Juan National Forest (the permits allow us to offer guided fly fishing trips on public waters), are the West and East Forks of the San Juan River, Wolf Creek, Turkey Creek, the Upper Piedra, and the Rio Blanco. These streams require some hiking to a lot of hiking, but they are great for beginners and advanced anglers.

First trout on the fly, and it is a Cuthroat!
Great Brown on a local stream that accessed with 4 wheelers.

We will access most of the fishing areas on foot or occasionally on a 4 wheeler. The fish average 8 – 15 inches are eager for dry flies and dropper rigs. Small streams will often give the beginner fly fisherman many more opportunities to hook a trout on the dry fly.  Go to our Rate Page.
